In a globally competitive environment, the need to rapidly transition from an innovative idea to a viable product necessitates that 21st century engineers and scientists think and act in an entrepreneurial manner. Not everyone must be interested in starting a technology-based company, but it is important to understand the business requirements of technology commercialization.

You can complement your undergraduate technical education with a minor in Entrepreneurial Studies through the Department of Engineering Management. The five-course curriculum (20 credits) will introduce you to the fundamentals of an entrepreneurial mindset.

The mission of RISE is to raise awareness of innovation through entrepreneurship and empower students to make their ideas a reality by giving them the tools to start, refine, and realize the visions that will shape tomorrow.

RISE was started by Chad Conway after he spent two summers at the successful start-up Tesla Corporation. Conway sensed a voracious curiosity about start-ups on campus. Soon, he had developed a campus initiative in which students could network and brainstorm with successful entrepreneurs. After graduating from 91ÊÓƵ in 2012 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Chad accepted a job at Tesla, but he remains connected to his alma mater, returning to campus to speak with students and share new insights.
